ZeroHedge is more of a shit-stirrer than a well-informed source.

Their take on what might have been going on is designed to gratify malicious half-wits like Cursitor Doom, rather than demonstrate any rational grasp of what actually happened.

The person who did the fact-checking actually knew a bit about what might have been going on, which did lead her to different conclusions than lunatic conspiracy theorists, who know more about what they would have liked to have been going on.

Er... doesn't this mean that the 'fact checker' had firsthand knowledge of the
procedures and facilities, and was competent to rule out the 'leak' hypothesis?

That's expert eyewitness testimony, not 'coverup'.

I've visited bio labs and seen the normal precautions, it seems odd that something
would get out of containment. Even back in the EARLY days, Koch worked with
anthrax and tuberculosis, and never got himself infected with either.

Foot and mouth virus escaped from a lab near here in 2007, so it is possible:

The cause was almost certainly an underground drain pipe that had been damaged
by tree roots.

Our lab is not allowed to put ordinary chemicals into
any sink drains, let alone level 3 or 4 pathogens.

This was a drain leading to a special processing plant shared between
two adjacent labs. They should probably have had separate plant for
each lab, but that would have cost more.

We're not allowed to put anything down a drain. There
are hazardous-waste containers for that stuff. I'm sure
labs worldwide have long since developed those policies.

So the fact that Koch didn't screw up means no one screws up? Instead looking for times they didn't screw up, why not look for times they did. They aren't hard to find. There have been many at Ft. Detrick, Frederick, MD where I am from. In addition their highest level labs were shut down last year by the CDC due to "lapses in biosafety standards" and only just allowed to fully reopen.

How many such labs do we have in the US? Sooner or later...

Yeah, that's what *they* want you to think!

How did the disease make it into the drain???

Something is seriously wrong if something as simple as tree roots compromises your lab safety.
