Hi guys,

Apologies if message doesn't fit this news group, however, I didn't get much
of a response from aus.tv.digital regarding my question on USB DTV Rx, so
maybe some of you guys in this "hi-tech" group may have some opinions.

I'm thinking of getting a USB DTV Rx - mainly to run on my laptop - as a
portable TV - more or less. Also the ability use it as personal video
recorder (PVR) would be a cheaper alternative to a real STB with a Hard
drive...

I have a few in mind right now (only considering ones that can do HD)
V-Stream XPERT USB2 - newer model
Dvico Fusion DVB-T
AverMedia DVB-T

There are a few others and the cost vary from mid $100's to the $300's. (Do
a search on www.staticice.com.au for "USB DVT" or "USB DVB" for best prices
in Australia)

So what do you guys think of them? Has anyone got one of these? Are they any
good for being used as a portable TV and also a PVR? Any problems with them?
What's the HD quality like? Is it as good as a real HD STB?

I have a Pentium-M 2.0Ghz, 1GB RAM and a Radeon 9600 (64MB) Laptop. Windows
XP Pro SP2.

One reviewer said he couldn't get enough power from his laptop USB port
(500mA?) to drive the thing and ended up getting a powered USB hub - which
defeats the purpose of being portable.

TIA

Try www.dba.org.au and join the discussion forums there. As the topic is on
DVB I'm sure you will probably have as good if not better chance of getting
and answer to your questions.

Cheers,

We sell the DVICO ones at work ..sold quite a few of the USB ones, and not
had any complaints (well, except one guy who couldn't get the software
installed and gave up, but when we re-sold the same package again later, it
worked perfectly..)

I'd say for proper quality, you'd want to be using it on a USB 2.0 equipped
machine ..
