Abbott will be shipping 50 million tests per month by October. The test is 97% accurate, produces results in 15 min, and only costs $5. This is a game-changer that will greatly speed a return to normalcy. No doubt Biden and the Dims are not celebrating this development.

I haven\'t dug into the testing so much. Is 97% accuracy a good number??? That seems like a lot of missed infections or is the 3% false positives?

Certainly the 15 minutes and the $5 tag are good. But of course, the $5 price tag is only for the test itself. The labs will still charge a bunch more to run the tests.

The real problem is there are so many people who won\'t believe the testing numbers no matter what happens with testing. Testing will find people who are infected, but it won\'t do a damn thing about those who refuse to acknowledge the danger of this disease and continue to spread the infection.

We were looking good in Virginia for a while, but like most places people are more relaxed about the precautions and the infection rate is climbing.

In the US as a whole, the infection rate had been falling quite well headed for near zero infections ahead of the election. But now the infection rate has leveled off again and is likely going to climb yet again.

The number I think is more telling than the infection rate or the death rate is the active case count. These are the people who are still fighting the disease. There are very few states where this number is depreciating. In most states it is going up even while the new case counts decline. That would seem to be in contrast of the lower death rates.

What I do know is I\'m very fed up with the way this country is not just being attacked by a virus, but being attacked by itself.

I think if Hitler was running for President I might vote for him rather than the current administration. Well, maybe not Hitler, but for sure Mussolini.

That is nothing compared to the false negative rates on the present PCR
tests which run at something like 20-30% even when used on people who
are showing all the classic symptoms of genuine Covid infection.

A positive PCR test is *definitive* that you have detectable viral DNA
(but it may not be live virus). As the test gets ever more sensitive it
also picks up fragments of viral DNA long after patients have recovered.
But you can\'t afford to take chances with a possible infected case.

A negative test when you are showing clear symptoms of Covid they tell
you to isolate anyway (happened to a friend). But those who are positive
but *test* negative and are showing no symptoms get missed completely.

That is the reason why testing at airports would lead to a false sense
of security and give 20-30% of infected people a clean bill of health.

97% is very probably marketing hype. And the claimed sensitivity and
specificity only applies in perfectly controlled conditions. The tricky
bit causing trouble is taking a good sample off the patient safely.

What I do know is I\'m very fed up with the way this country is not
just being attacked by a virus, but being attacked by itself.

You put a moron in the White House - what do you expect?
