OrCAD Capture 9.0 - fix a probably corrupted part?

I have a part in a library, under OrCAD capture 9.0, that we got from a
third party. However, I suspect it's corrupted. It's a heterogeneous part,
but irritatingly, there's one too many parts in the package. One of the
"parts" is blank. So I want to delete it. However, when I edit the part in
the library, go into Package View, and try to edit, under package
properties, the "Parts per package" setting, I get a dialog "Deletion of
heterogeneous parts can ONLY be done from the package view". Given that
this is the view I'm in, there's some problem. In addition, if, in Package
View, I do an "Edit...Properties", I get a "The Package Spreadsheet cannot
be displayed because no pins have been placed" dialog. There are obviously
placed pins because for each of the non-blank parts, there are pins
displayed and if you go into Part View, you can edit the properties of the
pins. I also tried adding a pin, but even with this added pin, when I went
back to Package view and did the Edit...Properties", I got the same
message.

So all this behaviour leads me to believe the part is corrupted somehow.
I'd like to be able to fix it without starting over. Is there any way to do
this? I can get creative, such as using a hex editor, copying to a
different file, importing into another program and reexporting, etc. if
that's what's required.

NB: There's no implied or explicit restriction of rights between us and
this third party. In other words, we got the part freely, with the
understanding that we could modify it at our leisure or redistribute it as
necessary.

I don't use Orcad, thankfully, but you could try simply copying the
part. That might fix the problem.

numbers disappear. So you end up having to start over. I'd have loved to
use that approach, but naturally it doesn't work. I can't understand why
the designers of Orcad would have copied parts pasted without pin numbers.

Capture is crap. Let EMA-EDA and Cadence/OrCAD know. Stop buying
their product.

Nothing much has changed. I remember when Orcad first appeared about 25
years ago, running under CP/M. A friend of mine had it and I tried
inputting a simple schematic. It crashed almost immediately.

Can't you open it and do "Save As". Yup. Try Open | Library |

Lib_name and then rclk Edit Part then File | Save As and save it to
your own library in case you ever want to use the FUBAR part again.

So, based on the messages I've gotten so far, I take it the answer is NO.
There's no way to fix a corrupted part.

As for OrCAD being suboptimal, I agree, but nonetheless, you have to work
with what you've got. Unfortunately, complaining about the deficiencies of
your software doesn't get work done.

Does Capture have a part export to ASCII utilty? If so, export the
device to an ASCII file, fix it, then import. The old SDT has this
capability which makes multi hundred-pin part creation relatively
easy.

OrCAD can do almost everything you need, except being used.

I'm forced to work with OrCAD. However, when I work with NoCAD, most of the
time I waste with searching where is the feature hidde I need.
What was that a nice time, when I worked with HiWire II from Wintek.

If there isn't one, you could form one yourself quite easily. I did this
for the Pulsonix PCB software I use, on Yahoo:

It doesn't get used very much; Pulsonix hasn't got many bugs (they get
fixed very quickly) and is very easy to use.
