Optical laser on a cd player

Can someone with no electronic knowledge replace one of these? Is it a
straight replacement or does it need to be "set up"

I can source the part and its expensive at almost Ł60 so I wondered if I
could fit it myself?

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks.

Most audio cd player laser pickups require little to no adjustment after
replacement as a practical matter. In an "ideal" world you maybe should
still tweak it for best performance.

There is a shorting pad on most new pickups, that is, two adjacent solder
pads shorted together with solder, which must be cleared (unsoldered) before
the new pickup will work.

You might be able to find a better price on the pickup. Some common types
sell for much less these days. They're Chinese copies, but they generally
work OK.
