Optical breadboard

I've been looking for a large optical breadboard or optical table. I
should be able to find one with vibration isolation legs or at least
some kind of a stand. So far , its seems that VERE must be the lowest
price company in the US that does this. I don't want to get a used
unit where I can get a new one. Our department has a small budget. I
found some links around the web about Lasershop and it seems VERE must
have made their stuff. Has anyone used one of these tables? I
especially need one with an anti reflective finsh.

What's wrong with a used one? For the most part, it's not like they
wear out!

The are pieces of iron (OK, aluminum honeycomb). Used is good. Ebay
can give you an idea of auction prices.

I don't know about the VERE, but this might help as well:

We bought large (1 x 2 m and 1.25 x 2.5 m) breadboards from Melles
Griot in 11cm and 6cm thickness, respectively. As such, they are
probably not very stable, but we put them on 1 x 2 m polished granit
slaps. That makes them stable.

Vibration damping: Most people offer complete stands only, but Newport
used to sell the dampers separately at a good price. They are the same
ones they use in their passive legs, but just the dampers. I
considered to put them under the granit, but never got round. They
sell them matched to the weight of the table, so if you get one which
matches granit plus breadboard, you should get quite a good damping.

I've never used VERE equipment. But have had great success with
equipment from TMC, http://www.techmfg.com/. They have different
grades of equipment at different price points.

You should still consider used equipment if your budget is limited.
There is alot of good used equipment out there due to the liquidations
that occured after the telecom bust.

In the days before off the shelf air damping systems there were
alternative inexpensive methods that worked very well. You can make
up a damping system to put under each leg of your table by putting
together layers of thin plywood and felt (or similar material) with a
thicker layer of plywood directly under the leg. Float this on a
patially inflated inner tube from a motor scooter. Honestly, with a
little bit of experimentation, you can create a very serviceable
vibration isolation / damping system.

It's been several years, but back when I was searching for the most
economical vibration isolated 4' x 8' table, I wound up going with the
Vere table top (black poly coating over magnetic steel skin, honeycomb
core), and TMCs legs. Both served very well. What's wrong with used?
Okay, sometimes there's dried coffee in the holes and maybe a few
scratches, but otherwise perfectly serviceable.

I recently bid and won an auction on EBAY for a V.I. table, as it was
close-by I decided to pick it up myself as shipping is a killer! Upon
inspection of the table I found that;
1. They had not tested it for function prior to offering it for
auction.
2. 2 of the active air legs were non-functional.
It is also my belief that they would have shipped it without testing
which would be expensive to return.
Be very careful!
You can build a table for about $400 as I did that is just as
functional as professional gear, but not as portable or "pretty". Not
difficult to do either.

We had good success with styrofoam blocks supporting the table. Another
old trick is to put the plate in a sand box. I think the damping from
the inner tube would take a longish time.

Before recording the desired video on the disc, my device stores the
video elsewhere in a seperate chip. In this video file, the sample
rate is divided by the file size so that the file size is decreased to
1 bit. Now, the PCM video is recorded onto the disc.

find a table of the size you are looking for via one of their resellers.
If you contact them directly you should be able to get a list of
resellers in your locality. They will likely be able to direct you toward
refurbished equipment, if that is what you require.
