OpenMosix or Gridengine experience

Hi,
has anyone any experience with cadence running on a mosix or
gridengine-cluster?
We have some linux number-crunchers but jobs are not distributed to
them in an optimum way, so i would be interested in doing it better...
Regards, Harald

Hi Harald

Cadence has some rudimentary support for LSF from Platform
Computing. But LSF is expensive and not easy to work with. OpenMosix
sounded promising, but not an option at my company. If you do try out
OpenMosix, please post your experience with it.

A few people are running EDA tools on SGE clusters.

You can join the SGE mailing list for more help.

Please help me pressure Cadence to provide full SGE and LSF support.

Thanks for your answers.
But I'm still not aware of benfits from SGE or Mosix for cadence?
I think I'm going to try one of these, but still am not sure which is
more promising?
Is cadence going to supply support for sge?
How much do they already support?
If they do so I would start with sge.
Unfortunately i can not see other peoples pcr?
As far as i get from now sge is sending jobs to individual machines,
where they stay.
Mosix is capable of migrationg jobs while running?
I do not need this, because we have just some machines, and not some
thousands, so i can live witg sge?
If i get it up and running i will report...
Regards, Harald
P.S. I would think that this could also be done by cadence?

There are plans to support SGE (in fact it already is supported by the core
load balancing API in the tools, but it's not yet available via ADE).
There are plans to do that though.

Also, there are a number of enhancement requests to directly interface to
queueing systems without going through the LBS API (which is what
Erik has been asking for). However, there are some issues with this if you
want to know when a job has finished, or if you have job interdependencies.
In simple cases it can be done, but support via the LBS API is (in theory)
a bit simpler for the user, although perhaps less flexible (this has been
discussed at length before in this forum, so no need to go through it
all again).

Note, I have written a solution which describes how to use SGE - solution
number 11015590 on http://sourcelink.cadence.com
This explains how to use SGE right now.

Regards,

Andrew.
