one speaker cuts out on old stereo receiver.

One speaker on my old Sanyo receiver cuts out occaisionally, often
when the volume dial is turned. The right speaker will distort
slightly, loose volume, or entirely cut out. I have ruled out the
speaker, as well as the speaker wire. I am not a technician, so i
appologise for a lack of further detail. Does anyone have suggestions
or most likely solution?
I prefer replies to email, but postings are fine as well.

Get a can of tuner wash from Rat Shack, carefully remove lid and find the
back of the pots (potentimeters) or u may know as Volume knob, also ya might
as well clean the balance and tone pots too...tuner wash spray comes with a
pin-point nozzle, carefully find an opening on the pots somewhere, stick
nozzle in it and liberally apply while rotating knobs back and forth, let
dry before trying to turn back on.....hope this helps....

Well..... I didn't think that that would be the likely problem given the
exact symptoms your described in your original posting. Below is the text
from my reply post to you a couple of days ago on Jan-09-2003. You can try
the spray cleaner, if you have some left, on item #2...... however, more
than likely the problem could be #3 and beyond...... these kinds of things
might be best left for an experienced tech.... these old receivers are
many times well worth the effort to get working..... at the very least you
should TAKE it to a shop to obtain a repair cost estimate so you can make an
intelligent repair decision with facts instead of internet or telephone
guesses.
