Old time op-amps

I need to get hold of an old op-amp. It's one of those round cans
with 8 leads out the bottom. It's a dual. Pinout is +v on pin 8, -v
on pin 4. Application is feedback amplifier for old Hp power supply.
Almost any bipolar op-amp with correct pinout will work. I looked in
Digi-key catalog, but nothing popped out at me.

Bob,

I think the MC1458 is the one you are looking for.

That's not old time. I thought he'd be looking for something like
the 709, which might be hard to locate nowadays. I think I might
consider a 301 or a 741 "old time" but somehow I can't really
think of a 1458 as such.

A Google search for MC1458 reveals a Texas Instruments datasheet from
1971. In my opinion electroninc circuits that are more than 30 years
old must be considered "old time". As far as I remember the 301 came out
mid-late 60's which only makes it 35 years old :)

I thought "old-time" meant tubes.

That's even better.

They were before my time.

Even hybrid op-amps were before my time, though for a long time I had one
sitting around. I think it was an Analog Device. I never did try it
so I don't know if it was working when I got it.

I've got one of those K2-Ws Bob Pease keeps raving about. Does that
qualify as old? OK, so he wasn't raving about them. :)

As far as TO5 metal can op-amps, they should still be available. Digikey
seems to be phasing out a lot of the slow moving stuff unless you want to
buy 1,000 pieces. :(
