old computer specs; how find?

How do I find the year of manufacture and tech specs of an old computer ? I
need all this to be able to tell what it won't do to justify purchase of a
new one to a committee.

It's a Hewlett Packard 4455 Pavilion with an Intel Celeron processor. I
think my daughter told me the Celeron is the slowest of three types of
processors.

In that computer type, there were a number of choices of CPU's and options.
Your question is difficult to directly answer. Did you try calling HP
customer support? Do you have the original invoice and original
documentation for the machine. There would most likely be reference to it on
the invoice, and documentation.

The Celeron is the slowest of the groups, and was the lowest in cost. This
is an older machine, and no matter what is in it, there is no way it can
compare to the machines of today. The intended application of the machine
will be the determining fact of what it is required.

Umm, here's a thought, how aabout the HP website?

A search from their home page for 'Pavilion 4455" brought up this.

Unless it has been upgraded you have a Intel Celeron processor at 400
MHz.

Thats pretty bottom of the barrel these days but if you have a fast
drive with decent mounts of RAM Win2K is still plenty usable on that
machine. People where I work get by with less.

It also depends on the community's needs for a computer. There are many
things a celeron can do.

I might add, save it to floppy, and you can test any computer you stick it
in. And its Mypcinfo, not Mysys info, my bad. Zip file. 885KB.

To illlistrate that need to a committee just have them atempt to use the
slow computer to do anything effective efeciently. Anyone that has a newer
system at their job or at home will instantly see the need to modernize.
Also, I'd bet the unit is running some version of Windows, probably 98, if
it has the original op/sys. Just run the system information utility found in
the System Tools folder. That should give you all the information about the
operating System, System Specs, Etc.
