O or 0

On IC's that have strange names/serial numbers that contains both numbers
and letters, how to
separate "O" from "0". Especially when there is only one such O/0, and can't
compare to something.
Shouldn't the "O" be wider than the "0"?

Yes, it should.

But "should" should be spelled "shud" 'cause it clearly is a four-letter word.
