It's looking for the nt loader.

Sounds like you're trying to install win95 or 98; and
previously there's been a copy of nt3, or nt4, or
win2k or xp on it.

Well if that's the case, then a "FDISK /MBR" command should fix him
right up.

Start with the basics! Is there a floppy disk in the floppy disk drive?
If so, remove the floppy and try a re boot.
What is the boot order set to in the bios. (ie. hard disk drive, floppy,
CD-R?)

Thereafter consider a problem with the hard disk drive.

Boot with a floppy disk and run "fdisk /mbr", then reinstall Windows (just for
safety).
Probably the system is looking for Windows NT and it is not installed.

Insert windows xp cd,and boot from it.
On the first options screen, select R
When asked which windows partition would you like to log on,type 1
for administrator password, just hit enter, then in the command line type
CHKDSK /P and press enter.
It works in most cases. If not, sorry, you vill have to reinstall windows.
Greetz!!

If so, remove the floppy and try a re boot.
I once fixed a computer for an organization to which I belonged....

Their email had been down for a almost a week until I came into the office
to look things over. The solution turned out to be:

***eject the disk from the floppy drive.***

Until then, they were getting a message very similar to what the OP is
getting.

They had even had a self-appointed 'expert' come in to look at it. He left
a note to the effect that their 'Windows NT installation must have become
corrupt, and that they must reinstall Windows NT.'

Of course, they were running W98.

Sometimes it's the simplest things....
