Non-original replacement for Jim Dunlop Wah Wah pedal pot.

A friend's kid brought me this pedal saying "it needs a new pot",
but it looks like a custom part - has Jim Dunlop's name on the
part. They're available, but he can't afford it. Does he have
any options? The body of the pot (sorry, it's not in front of
me now) I guess about a 1" cube, with a pinion gear extending
perhaps 1" to engage a rack. It turns very freely, of course,
quite unlike a normal pot. Any thoughts on alternate sources?
I'd like to help this kid, he's only 14 and pretty keen on his
guitar :). If nothing's available I guess I'll try to open the
pot itself.

Thanks Phil, always a fountain of knowledge. Alex will thank you too.
I'll remove the pot and check dimensions with Bourns before ordering,
but it looks right - and you seem to speak from experience :).
