Hello, all!

I have a Panasonic 32" TV and I'm not sure which model it is. It was
manufactured in 1998 according to the label on back of the TV. For about 6
months the TV will squeal loudly when there are bright colors on the screen.
Cartoons are the worst and my kids are sad. :) Dark movies (the ones that
I prefer) aren't nearly so noisy. Of course this is intermittent but it
seems to be getting worse as time goes on.

I've looked inside the TV to see if anything is arcing or glowing and didn't
notice anything. I'm not sure how pronounced that effect would be though
and it was difficult to get my fat head in between the back cover and the
tube.

Could one of you fine folks point me in a direction that may be helpful?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Either inductors, transformers, and ferrite cores in the horizontal
deflection/h-v circuit or in the sweep-power supply circuit may be the
source of the offending noise. Diligence will be needed to determine exactly
which item is actually resonating.. Application of shellac, rtv, or even
"Crazy Glue" to the device may stop them from vibrating and resonating the
noise. Even ferrite cores will resonate noises at times.

Could you possibly explain why this only occurs when bright colors are being
displayed?

Thanks!

Probably the fact that when the pix is brighter there is more load put onto
the power supply.

Make sure your audio is turned down when this is happening to ensure it is
not coming out of a speaker.

Deflection coils can make buzzy noise when they become older. If this is the
case, you could attach them better by adding some kind of glue or lacquer to
it (must stand high temperatures).
