no remote control

I have a symphonics television (model #st4819).
(Yeah, go ahead and laugh!!)But this guy really wants this thing fixed.
Anyway, I can't get the remote to work. I tried programming manually and
using the code search with 2 different remotes.(RCA and allforone brands).
Neither remote works; however, the RCA brand works with another television.
So this causes me to suspect the televsion itself. I was wondering maybe A
microprocessor or an EEPROM problem. Doe anyone have any ideas?

Could be the Ir pickup or maybe even incompatibility with the other brand
"programmable" remotes. You can check the output of the IR pickup to see if
the data is actually being received and transferred to the micro.

Most likely the remote sensor module or cell is defective. Also, it is
possible that some components the way to the uPC are defective. You will
have to trace out the signal along its path to see where it is getting lost.
You can face a remote at the IR sensor, and trace out the signal with a
scope. Without a scope, it will be difficult to determine if the signal is
present or not.

Try a Jensen 5 in 1 remote
Look on the back of the packaging to see if there is a listing for your TV.
I have the Jensen 5 in 1 remote, works reall well and easy to program
