My TV recently encountered a hiccup. I had this thing for 5 years.
The picture began to distort and part of the screen shrank to the
center then it would pop back to normal when I hit the side of the TV
with my hand (Fonzi Touch). This was going on for a week or so then
the picture won't even come on anymore. The blinking timer light just
consistently blinks. Sound is normal like the TV is receiving the
channel but no picture. I never had problem with channel reception.

Is it the the power supply, the circuit board behind the CRT?

A suggestion was given "There are two things that will keep the
picture from coming up. A weak picture tube. There is a circuit that
monitor circuit called an IK monitor. This cause a slower turn on or
none at all. The LED will be flashing."

What is a IK moniter and where is it in the TV.

Should I try to get it repaired or is it time to let it go and find a
new TV. I can solder pretty good. Thank you for your help in advance.

There may be a very bad cold solder connection, most likely in one of
the scan amplifiers, or pin amp areas. Because the fault was
neglected, there may be some colateral damage as well.

Since you let the problem go and develop, what was once just a solder
connection failure to the vertical circuit is now a full cascade failure of
the vertical output circuit.

Time to have the tv repaired by a qualified technician. Typical total
repair cost if you take the tv into the servicer is under $135 for that
problem on that tv set. Add $50 or so for the trip charge to have them fix
it in your home.
