No Bass

I have an aiwa NSX-D9 stereo (circa 1999). For some unknown reason
the subwoofers seem to have stopped working. Any idea if it's
internal settings? I guess the speakers could be blown, but not sure
how that would have happened.

Any suggestions much appreciated since I can't afford a new system or
speakers!
