A Dothan man pleaded guilty to exposing himself to customers at a local
McDonald's restaurant.
Houston County District Attorney Banks Smith said 34-year-old Joel
Junior Grubbs pleaded guilty Tuesday to a felony indecent exposure
charge. Smith said Circuit Court Judge Larry Anderson sentenced Grubbs
to a five-year prison term as part of the guilty plea agreement.
But Grubbs applied for probation, which will be determined by Anderson
on Aug. 2. Smith said Grubbs will remain in custody at the Houston
County Jail until his probation hearing. He said the prosecution will
not be recommending probation to the court at the hearing.
Court records show police charged Grubbs with exposing himself at the
McDonalds restaurant in the 2100 block of Ross Clark Circle on April
17, 2012.
Smith said a patron at the restaurant complained to the manager after
seeing Grubbs expose himself, which led to the manager throwing Grubbs
out of the restaurant and calling 911.
Smith said indecent exposure is typically a class A misdemeanor charge,
but when the offender gets charged three times it becomes a felony.
Smith said the McDonalds restaurant offense was the fifth such offense
for Grubbs. Grubbs had four other similar convictions with the City of
Dothan.
Smith called Grubbs a serial indecent exposure offender.
Police also arrested Grubbs in July 2012 for a similar incident. Police
charged Grubbs with exposing himself in the area of a local hotel in the
3200 block of Montgomery Highway.
