Houston police are asking for the public's assistance in locating a the
man wanted in the death of a woman at 5801 Sunforest #1015 about 7:50
a.m. Friday.
Joel Burt Thompkins, 48, is charged with capital murder in the 209th
State District Court. Thompkins, a black man, 6 feet 3 inches tall, 245
pounds and bald, is accused in the death of Bridget Renee Jones, 46, of
the Sunforest address. Jones suffered trauma to her head and was
pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officers S. Anderson and R. Bolton
said Jones was found dead in the entryway of her apartment by a friend
who was at the apartment to provide a ride to school for Jones' child.
Evidence from the scene determined the motive to be robbery. Further
investigation identified Thompkins as the attacker and that he stole
various items including a laptop computer, a child's game system, and a
Panasonic 37 inch LCD television set from Jones' apartment and sold them
for drugs.
He is believed to be driving a white Mazda 626, with Texas license
plates FGR-230, also stolen from the scene.
Persons with information in this case, who may have purchased items from
Joel Burt Thompkins in the past week, or on his whereabouts is urged to
contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at
713-222-TIPS.
