Greenville, N.C. A man accused of seriously injuring four people in a
shooting spree Friday morning intended to inflict mass casualties on
innocent people, Greenville's police chief said Sunday.
Lakim Anthony Faust, 23, faces four counts of attempted murder in
connection with the shootings in the parking lots of Kellum Law Firm and
Walmart on Greenville Boulevard.
Investigators say Faust was armed with a shotgun when he allegedly shot
one person at the law firm and then crossed the street to the store,
where he shot three more people.
Faust was then taken down in a gunfire exchange with officers outside
the store, authorities said.
"He had over 100 rounds of shotgun ammunition that was recovered in a
small container at the scene where he was shot by police," Greenville
police Chief Hassan Aden said.
He would not comment on a possible motive but said it appears the
shootings appeared to be random.
Faust was being treated at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville Sunday
for, according to Greensville's WNCT-TV, injuries to his arms and legs.
He will be formally arrested upon his release, and Aden said more
charges are possible.
Investigators also seized evidence from Faust's apartment, at 217
Hartford St., but Aden did not say what kind. WNCT, however, reported
that investigators seized shotgun ammunition boxes and cases as well as
computer evidence and various papers.
Police have not released the medical conditions or identities of the
people who were shot. Aden only said their injuries were serious.
