Ni-Cd Battery Question

I have two cordless drills, each has Ni-Cd batteries. The instruction book for
one (Craftman) says the battery should be stored charged, the other (Skil) says
discharged. Are different Ni-Cd batteries that different?

Thanks

You mean prolonged storage. Do not worry about between-use storage.

You might also try this group.

sci.chem.electrochem.battery

Have fun.

I read in sci.electronics.design that Rewar <rewar@aol.com> wrote (in

No, but some manufacturers are skilled and some are merely crafty. (;-)

Whether you store them charged or discharged, after 3 months they will
be discharged. I charge mine every 3 months or so. Y MMV.

The good news is that nothing is compulsory.
The bad news is that everything is prohibited.

Which is what I do and what the Craftsman manual says to do.
What bothers me is the following from the Skil manual:

"If you anticipate long periods (i.e a month or more) of non-use of your tool
it is best to run your tool down until it is fully discharged before storing
your
battery pack." Or " . . . ". if you prefer.

So I will go to "sci.chem.electrochem.battery" as jdoe suggested and
in the mean time, to be on the safe side, I will discharge them half way.

Thanks

Robert
