New Sanyo TV Ticking

Hi everyone,

I just bought a new Sanyo 27" standard TV. When it is turned off, there
is a quiet, but noticable ticking coming out the back. It sounds like a
mechanical stopwatch at about 4 or 5 TPS (ticks per second). When the TV
is on, it stops. Other than the ticking, the TV seems to work fine
(although I haven't tried using any of the A/V inputs yet, just the cable.
Is this normal, unusual but not a problem or something I should have
looked at while it's still under warranty?

Probably best to either get it looked at or replaced through an exchange.

I probably wouldn't recommend Sanyo as their sets are built kind of cheaply.

Sony, Toshiba, Hitachi, JVC, Panasonic, and Sharp are good picks.

RCA, GE, Sylvania, Emerson, Orion, Symphonic, Funai, Magnavox, and Philips are
some of the brands to avoid. - Reinhart

back. Your consumer laws are Crap!!
90 Day Warranty Wot a Joke If a manufacture will not give at least a years
Warranty Don't buy it.As far as build quality goes I think all makes are
poor now.(cheap)

Eh, even thou you drop a pint of spirits down the back side?? Bloody been
asked too many times why the warrenties won't cover obvious abuse and
neglect, let alone flippin stupidity. Pay for a reasonable good device, say

If it is the type of ticking noise I am thinking about, this is the static
discharge from the anode cap, while the high voltage is depleting after
shutdown. There can also be some dust particles that have taken on some
charge and are now discharging.

Since you are not a TV service tech and the set is still under warranty, you
should ask your dealer to have the set checked for you, in case it is not
what I am speculating on. I can only go by your basic description about the
fault.

Actually it is the sound of the SMPS in standby. This question has been
posted here on Sanyo tv sets within the last few months for the same
complaint on a new tv. Every one of the newest Wal-mart special Sanyo tv
sets have the same faint, just audible noise when in standby. Just a cheap
set design.
