In last month's EDN, Goder presented a way to sense (and control) the
current on the high side. This means that the regulator only has Iout
and Gnd connections to the client device.
The attached circuit simulates as a 10mA current source, with a high
voltage safety cutout. It accepts a broad range of input and output
voltages, and rejects a lot of input ripple. Feel free to critique it
--- just attack it, not me.
In the simulation, the two inductors DO NOT have magnetic coupling.
That is my understanding of the distinction of SEPIC and Flyback.
Feel free to offer corrections.
I dropped some copies of the PCB into my last prototype order, and the
boards have returned. I have not built one up, other matters call.
