You have several issues to deal with. Overall attenuation, HF rolloff,
hum pickup and probably others. I was looking for quite a while and
found this App note on Linear Technology's site. This will take care
of the gain and EQ part. For hum issues you could try a fast DC
reatoration amp. I've had good results with the Elantec EL2090.
