Hi group, quick question. Will Sony 650 MB CD - rewriteable discs work ok in
my Philips CDR770 audio disc recorder? I have a chance to buy a bunch of
these at a pretty good price, ( .75 each) but no returns.
thanks in advance,
Tom

Check your player's instructions or go to Philips' website for more details
concerning your player about whether or not they will work with CD-RW discs.

Also, confirm that the Sony CD-RW discs are audio-type discs. Computer-type
discs will not work on audio CD recorders (thank the pundits at the RIAA for
that).

If you are unable to verify both of these concerns, it may be best to pass the
deal. While it's good, it's not so great if you can't use them. - Reinhart

That's so silly, there's far more computer CD burners out there and they're
far cheaper, and they'll use the cheap discs. Seems like protecting the
audio-only recorders does nothing but rip off consumers.

The disks that go ito the Philips recorders must say MUSIC on them or
they will not work . The MB on those disks mean they are for computers .

No argument here.

Imposing a surcharge on audio CD-R and CD-RW media is pointless as you can
still make virtual perfect copies on a computer using cheaper recording
hardware and media, and without worry from SCMS to boot.

As for CDs that are coded to keep them from being read by a computer, which was
developed by Sony for loads of money: funny how that can be circumvented by
covering a strategic point on the irridescent side of a coded CD with a $0.99
permanent marker.

Depending on what you use, the recorder on your computer may be superior in
terms of quality and accuracy to all but professional audio CD recorders (but
professional audio CD recorders will work with computer-type CD media, unlike
consumer audio CD recorders). - Reinhart

Why not make sure and purchase a small pack (some stores sell 2-5 packs) and
try before buying in a mass quantity?

Slightly off topic, but...I recently bought a Sony CD burner (CRX230A-U)
that came with some really crap software called B's Gold, and B's Clips.
Using that software, the burner refused to copy music to a CDR, or CDRW. It
would ONLY copy music to a CDRW MUSIC disc.
After I reflashed it back into thinking it was a LiteOn burner, (which it
was), it happily works with all software I've thrown at it. Sony Sucks.

Oh, say that Sony writers sucks just because they bundle software which has
nothing to do with the performance of the writer itself.

I have a Sony writer and it's been working for years. I don't use the software
that was bundled with it, though. I use Nero, and it has never made a coaster,
ever. - Reinhart

Youre exactly right, of course. It just pi**ed me off that Sony would be
pompous enough to demand you use MUSIC cdrs in their software. The burner
with other software performs beautifully, BUT (!!!)
it is a LiteOn burner to begin with. Sony doesnt make burners, they use
LiteOns.

Did you crack it open to find out?

Anyways, my drive was made by Sony themselves as opposed to being a Lite-on
OEM. Then again, my drive was made four years ago. - Reinhart

Some of us do not have or want a computer , all the software , mess and
headaches that go with one .
I use a home 2 tray copy recorder and buy the disks in packs of 50 for
around 15$
These home recorders are handy .. put in 2 disks , push a couple buttons
& your recording or sit & pick out the tracks you want . or you could
even hook it to a computer & record off of that if one so wishes .
