Need help with simple IR remote circuit

Can someone recommend a simple IR remote receiver circuit that can
understand about 20 commands.

I am looking for a simple circuit, or a device that I can cannibalize. The
outputs are going to drive bi-directional switches.

The IR signals will ultimately be transmitted by a learning remote. I would
prefer not to have to build the initial transmitter if I could use a
pre-existing remote unless the transmitter circuit is very simple.

Thanks for your help.

Jack,

Check the ELM339 - Infrared Remote Control
from Elm. It will control 3 devices:

Otherwise I see a lot of tossed out VCRs and remotes in the garbage
and for a few bucks at garage sales. You could hack the remote board
directly or take the IR sensor out of the VCR and use the remote to
transmit
digital words to a PIC you programmed. Which I usually avoid.
a lot of IR info at:

Good luck

Richard
