Need Help with Hitachi CM801U monitor...

Hello all...

I picked this monitor up from "curbside discount". It powers on and works
pretty well, but someone tried to "repair" it. I'm not sure what the
original problem was or if it even had an original problem.

When powered on the picture is very good, and the colors are correct. I have
gotten that much straightened out. The monitor seems to have trouble with
focus. Focus was a disaster to start with, and I have adjusted the focus
pots on the flyback (there are two) to where the picture is pretty good. (It
is clear the controls were twiddled before I got it...) Trouble is that if I
adjust the pots to where the edges are well focused, the center of the
screen will be slightly out of focus. The problem is reversed if I get the
center to look good.

I would hope that this does not indicate a monitor failure. I think the main
problem is that I do not understand the interactions that the focus controls
have on each other, but if I am wrong, please correct me.

Long story short, I'm looking for someone who can tell me how I can go about
getting the monitor into better focus overall. I'd also like to know if this
qualifies as a "good" monitor (one that won't be showing up on the repair
bench every other day or so...) and...if I can't get the focus back, if a
professional repair would be worthwhile.

Thanks in advance...

William
