Need BFR92 transistor in TO92

I need to find an exact replacement for a BFR92 but in a TO92 through hole
package. This is an NPN 5 Ghz wideband transistor which only comes in
surface mount. I've done a lot of searching and data sheet reading, but
have not yet found a replacement.

I would also like to find the same for a S852 which also only comes in a
surface mount package.

I doubt if you will find anything, especially if you require an "exact"
replacement. There will be too much inductance on the leads of a TO-92
package to make the 5 GHz bandwidth useful.

I can't see a single TO-92 body in the JEDEC series that boasts Ft
greater than 900MHZ.

The most likely 4-pin hermetic part is in TO-72, 2N5651 or BFT17

If all you are looking for is longer leads, the plastic micro-t
package (~TO-51 or TO224) might serve at the higher frequencies.

That's ~BFR90.

These are all obsolescent part numbers.

BFY90 may be somewhere near as close as you'll get. 1.4GHz Ft and the
right package (with 4th lead for Case).

Or try looking for SMA540B (plastic package, Ft 1.8GHz)?

As has been stated, you can't take full advantage of such high Ft in
such an old case style anyway due to emitter lead inductance.

OOPS! Sorry an online catalogue I was using showed SMA540B as a TO-92.
It is a SMT. Duh.

Looks like it is BFY90 then.
