Hi...

I have acquired a broken motherboard I'd like to repair, and it has a bad
regulator, marked NEC K3296. A post I found states it is the same as an NEC
2SK3296. Can't find any data or cross reference on it.

Anyone got any idea what I'd replace this with? (It's a three-leg TO-263
device with the center leg cut off).

There is some info on the NEC Chinese site:

http://www.necel.com/discrete/english/products/transistor/fet_pkg_info/to220ab.html

But clicking on a link to a data sheet shows a blank page. It would probably
have been in Chinese, anyhow!

Any help appreciated.

I tried to extract the data from their site. This is a high speed
switching N channel FET. It is available, and so are substitutes.

To see the site, your system must allow cookies, and you must install
the Chinese language set. Also, if your internet security is set too
high, you will not see this site. It is a safe site. When on their
site, you can open a pdf file to get the detailed specs.

Thanks Jerry...

You were correct, I was able to download the data sheet by lowering security
settings temporarily.

I cannot find any source to order one of these except one place which
apparently sells in quantity to industry, so I'll have to look for something
similar and try it.

A forum post I found on the same subject suggested IRF3704 as a likely
substitute for 2SK3296. Characteristics seem similar.

NTE carries a lot of N-channel power MOSFETS but I can't match up the
characteristics. It's like comparing apples and oranges. There is no direct
cross reference for either chip.

I don't know whether this old board is worth repairing, but being retired
with time on my hands, I can't resist trying to fix things!

Thanks for the help.

Ken
