Narrow IC Insertion Tool Needed

I got hooked on using IC insertion tools. I am using a new IC that is a 40 pin
DIP, but it is only .300 wide and not the usual .600. I have looked high and
low but can't find a tool that is designed for 40 pins that is only .300 wide.

Anyone have any leads or tips? I tried making one myself, but it came out
pretty bad.

An IC insertion tool makes it easier to insert IC's into a PCB. One end of the
tool has a trough that you push the IC into. The trough squeezes the pins
together to the proper spacing. The spring force of the pns being squeezed
holds the IC into the tool. You then insert the IC into the holes. The other
end of the tool has a plunger that you push with your thumb. This releases the
IC from the tool. The pins then spring back to their origonal width holding
the IC into the board.

Now, as to why I am looking for a tool...

I made a bunch of boards trusting to the library artwork for the DIP IC's. As
it turns out, the library artwork had the hole size too small. Inserting the
IC's into the board is a royal pain, both time consuming and costly in bending
the crap out of pins!!

Lay the edge of the chip on a flat surface so that the edges of the pins
are on the surface, then press down on the chip and rotate it so that
you bend all the pins at once. Do it on both sides if you want
symmetry, otherwise just do one side, insert it into the PCB and solder
it down. Done.
