A while ago I bought a NAD 517 cd changer. Recently I discovered that there were some
wires and resistors soldered to the down site of the pcb. Does anyone know whether this
has been common practice with this model or does the former owner has to have made a
modification?

I hope you haven't been losing sleep of this. :)

99.9999% probability it was an ECO, not some previous owner's improvements.

You would have to obtain the service manuals, and update publications for
your unit. There are many instances in these products that during the
assembly runs, they come up with corrections to make improvements.

If the unit is functioning properly, I would not worry about it.
