OH man that was cool did anyone watch tonight's show?

Loved the experiments tonight especially their attempt
to charge up a PVC pipe. Unfortunate that they couldn't
get the pipe to build a charge like the myth they were trying
to bust. But interesting how they brought up the topic of
leyden jars. Reminds me of beer powered radios and
such. Even potato powered radios from science class.

Also loved the big vandegraph generator they made. That
looked like a heap of fun.

The exploding candy was fun too especially the one where
they filled the gobstopper with gunpowder. That was just
fun...

The more I see of this show the more I like it.

** The Mythtern girl copping boiling sugar on her face and neck was not fun
to watch - it was real "cool" how the camera guys followed her running to
the toilet and went in the door - not.

I guess a perceived need to live up to being a "reality" show with real
danger was the reason they included it.

Tacky.

That's rich coming from an epitome of etiquette like you.

She got a little splash on the neck and forehead, hardly life
threatening, or requiring the camera man to stop rolling and help.

If anything the decision to use the footage (not made by the camera
operator) made an excellent "don't do this at home" warning.

I saw this episode several weeks ago on a Qantas flight from Darwin to
Adelaide, good to see they have some decent programming now!

Poor Mythtern chick, she really copped it. It's serious stuff they do.

There's a much easier way to get a charge out of a plastic pipe.
Get a CO2 fire extinguisher, hold it by it's nozzle, and pull the trigger.
It will shoot dry ice out the end, and in the process give you a
mighty shock. Same principle as the Mythbuster's plastic pipe
but much more effective.

A Van de Graf generator that size should have shot off foot long sparks.
This is not to be too critical, it's great to see anyone performing these
exoeriments on TV. I'm hooked on Mythbusters!

Now, if you want to see some real sparks, visit the Nikola Tesla museum
in Colorado Springs and get them to fire up their Tesla coil. This monster
is the size of an oil drum and shoots sparks to the ceiling - 3 or 4 feet away.
Most likely lethal so stand clear!

No no I agree that bit was not fun at all but it did highlight
the fact that the stuff they do is DANGEROUS and should not
be attempted without safety gear. Now why wasn't she armed
with a face shield?

** There was no safety enclosure around the "jaw breaker" and mechanical
teeth ( a metal frame existed but with no plastic panels in it) -
presumably removed because it interfered with photography.

Now why wasn't she armed with a face shield?

** Film and TV people are typically very "gung ho" when it comes to
afety - getting the pics comes first every time.

The Mythtern said she forgot to put her mask on - but where was the safety
officer to remind her ??

It could easily have been very much worse.
