My Toshiba Big Screen having problems...???

The other day I was watching TV, and my Toshiba Model# TP48E61 screen
just went blank. The sound was still there but there was no picture.
I could still change the channel with the remote and here the
different stations, but couldnt see anything on the screen. There was
a transformer that blew earlier that day in the neighborhood that cut
the electricity off for 10sec or so. I do have a surge strip the TV
plugs into though.

What could possibly be the matter with this Toshiba TV, and what is a
reasonable repair cost that I should pay considering the TV is 8 years
old...???

Thanks in advance, Brian Hadley

If the pictures were very good, and the tubes are okay, I would certainly
call for an estimate. Make sure whoever you call, is very familiar with your
set. If you are unsure, call the Toshiba authorized service.

The set most likely has a high voltage fault, or a fault in the main power
supply. It is only by coincidence that the set failed. When considering the
age of the set, and if it has many hours on it, this is an indication that
there is a chance of something failing.
