MP3 player for car?

I would be interested in the track record for repair on various makes of
MP3/tuner replacements for my car. I have had good success with the alpine,
but am not weedded at the hip to that specific brand. It is a pain to
replace, so I don't want to get a lemon if I can help it.

Think it is about time to replace the venerable Alpine cassette/tuner in my
1976 vette with something newer with MP3 capability.

I currently run a small 50w/ch outboard equalizer into some 6x9 side door
mount speakers and a pair of 6x9's in the rear compartments. I also have an
entry level subwoofer (bazooka) I think in the rear.

Any recommendations on brand/model /features to look for in a replacement?
I'd like to get rid of the outboard equalizer and I feed front and rear
speakers, so need fader control, etc.

tia.

I personally like the Bose and Sony units. I think the Bose radios are made
by some other manufacture, but their name brand was good for us. We put a
Bose radio, in one car, and in the other we put a Sony radio. These are over
6 years old now, and have been working very well without any trouble at all.
The Bose radio has a lot of features, compared to the Sony. But, they are
both very good.

From year to year the models change. You would probably be best off to
search out the Consumer Magazine, or some other independent publications. I
would not trust any dealers that are selling them, because they can tend to
be biased to push the products that they are selling.

You can also search the product opinion sites on the web. Be careful that
there are also some dealers who put out opinions of their products that they
are trying to push.

I have chosen our home appliances from these sites, in combination with some
of the consumer type magazines. I took my time, and always came out on top.

I've had a Kenwood KDC-MP4023 for a couple of months. Nominally
50W/channel with four channel output. All kinds of equalizing and
faders etc. Plays CD-RW discs happily without skipping. Very sensitive
tuner. It sounds great and I'm very happy with it, but it's not really
old enough to know how reliable it's going to be.
