Does anyone know of an Australian seller of any of the following MP3
decoding chips

AT89C51SND1

MAS3507

Or another chip that decodes MP3 and is available in Australia for
hobbyists?

Thanks,
Nigel

This is an 8051 microcontroller; it will need to be programmed. Do you
have the object code for it?

Peter

Not the 8051 but I am familiar with PICs, AVRs and C in general. (as well as
a small amount of intel 86 assembler)

Would it be to big a challange for a hobbyist familiar with the above to
turn around and program the required 8051 code for this mp3 decoder?

Probably not. The data storage can be MMC, which is fairly easily implemented, there's
plenty of code on the 'net for various processors to drive this. The website
http://www.mp3projects.com has a large repository of knowledge, however
it's recently been sold and the new owner is yet to restart the website.

It's also got an ATA/ATAPI interface, so you can use compactflash cards too.
The spec for CF is on Sandisk's website. There's also an application note on
Motorola's website somewhere.

Check out this website too. He uses the AVRs in his projects though, not the '51 based controllers.
http://www.myplace.nu/mp3/

The distributors I mentioned earlier also take credit cards and will sell over the phone.

There is some great 8051 stuff here:
http://www.pjrc.com/tech/8051/index.html

And interfacing with hard drives etc
