Motorola K5528B TO-220 npn transistor

I just discovered a TO-220 npn power transistor, labelled "Motorola K
2258B", in the switch modul for the rear gate washer/wiper of my '88 Dodge
Caravan SE, which, for some weird reason, got CE shorted the other night,
when it was only 8°C, most likely by a voltage spike.

So far, I was unable to find any information about that type, neither with
Google nor directly at Motorola's/Freescale's web site.

Since it has to switch a max of some 1.0...1.5A to ground for the pump to
work and is driven by only 5V/1.38mA, it has to be a strange fellow, with
a Beta of around 1000, without being a Darlington, since BE and BC show
only a 0.6V threshold.

Can anyone give some informations about this felleow or a suitable
rplacement type and where to get it?

Seems unlikely. That part is made by Fuji, is in a TO-3P package, and
is a 1000V 4A MOSFET with 3.6 ohm Rds(on).

There are two different part numbers mentioned by the OP, however, and
I don't have any data on the second possibility.

Also, the usual method of implementing a wiper delay control is to use a
SCR, since the wiper interrupts the 12V at the end of the cycle and
conveniently resets the SCR.

I also thought about that possibility, but couldn't find anythyng suitable.
And in that case the writing usually isn't:
Motorola logo and "K" in one line and in the next one only 2258B.
It commonly would be K2258B.

No, it's not the wiper control switch, that one controls the washer pump
and a SCR doesn't have BE and BC diodes, showing a 0.6V drop.
