Managed to re-purpose a knackered one this last weekend. I am currently
refurbishing my pinball table, having 'let it go' a bit over the last couple
of years. One item that I had an issue with was one of the drop target
banks. Turned out that the return springs had gone hard and stretched, so
needed replacing. These only need to be of very light tension - enough to
make sure that the target *just* keeps its microswitch pressed when down -
otherwise the solenoid can't get up enough speed to reset the bank when all
three targets are down. However, their length has to be very specific for
them to do their job.

Turned out that the springs in the reverb tank were a perfect diameter, and
when stretched open very slightly, had a perfect tension for the job when
cut to the right length. It's good on the rare occasions when something like
this works out perfectly ! :)

That's one thing the old record changers were great for, a nice variety
of springs, cams and levers.

I have a box full of replaced CD and DVD decks. Endlessly useful donors of
gears, motors, screws, rods, switches etc ...
