MONITOR: Repair, screen blank, though LED glows...

Hi,
I'd posted before about broken connector pins... I think one of the
replies stated that was not the problem. I investigared by cutting off
the connector cord from a trashed monitor, and experimented with
breaking the pins...

it seems that when a pin is broken, its end is still in the connector,
and blocks the entry of any other pin. This was not so in my monitor's
connector.
The 4 pins missing had proper holes... plus it seems those slots were
supposed to be empty ot unnecessary.

The problem:

When I switch on the comp, there is no picture whatsoever on the
monitor screen. I know it did not get power coz I did not hear the
static. There is no problem with the rest of the comp/VGA card.
However, the Green LED (there are no other) lights up, and nothing
else happens. It does not blink, and there is no beeps from the
monitor.

Its a TVM LG4R 14" VGA monitor.

What could the problem be?

Is it advisable for me to open the monitor? If so, what are the
obvious clues i should look out for?

I would appreciate any advice.

TIA,
Lars

Well, you were told as such, but you didn't seem to accept it :)

The problem:

I know of no monitors which beep.

It could be virtually anything. Failed PSU, failed HOT, no heater voltage,
there is no way of telling from the information you give.

Is it advisable for me to open the monitor? If so, what are the
obvious clues i should look out for?

I would never advise anyone without experience of TV and monitor servicing
to try a repair of this nature. A professional repair on a 14" monitor is
unlikely to be cost effective, and the chances of you fixing it yourself are
slim. The first thing to look for in this case would be a failed HOT or PSU
fault, but don't expect advice like 'change Tr512' or 'check r213 for open',
it just isn't that simple.
