Monitor repair question

I have a Compaq P110 monitor. It worked flawlessly until last week when the
bottom of the display started shaking and stretching down off the visible
screen. Using the display adjustments I could bring up the bottom (maximum
setting) but it was still shaky. As time went on it got worse. Any ideas on
what has gone wrong or what to look for? Anyone else had similar problem.

Probably an electrolytic capacitor that has either dried-up
or 'leaking'...

If you are lucky, it could be a cold solder joint too.

....Typical bad effects of time (and temperature changes)
on electronics stuff :(

Speaking of monitors, most of the classic video arcade games
from the late 70s / early 80s mostly need a complete 'recap'
job on their monitor too by now...

Good luck,

Regards,

This is mainly from capacitors going bad in the vertical deflection circuit.
Use an ESR meter to test them. Replace the defective ones. If you are not
used to servicing monitors, have the set-up and tools, and are properly
trained (sounding this way by your question), pack up the monitor and bring
it to a service centre to have it properly serviced.

There are many serious safety concerns when working on TV and computer
monitors.

Oh I wouldn't even think of tackling this myself. :) Thanks for the concern
and the place to start...

Sounds like the CXA2043Q is failing. Below, from the Anatek site...

QUESTION NO. P731-7: Compaq P110 model 630 monitor. I replaced the
cxa2043q on a P110 but now when I press the ON-SCREEN display button,
the display symbol appears on the left down corner but that is all.

If that was the SMD IC at location 007, then Sony DAS (digital
alignment) will need to be run. If you do not have that software and
apparatus, find a shop with this equipment, and software for the Sony
GDM500 model.

QUESTION NO. P57-2: Compaq P110 model 630 monitor, the lower half
stretches and bounces and eventually puts the monitor into standby.
Also, is there a Sony crossmatch?

I believe this is a Sony N3 chassis, similar to the Sony GDM-500PS.
Check out the CXA2043Q IC.

My repair technician got back to me on this with:
"I have sent out the inquiry to obtain IC , CX2043 so far not single reply
from sony supplier."

Anyone know where or how to get one of these?

MCM is least expensive, but is out of stock

LJ has it in stock, but more pricey
