monitor problem ...

I have a CRT Philips monitor that I"ve used for over four years. Just a
few days ago the entire left side of the screen starting shifting small
distances back and forth (horizontally). Is there a general rule of thumb
with repairs on monitors?

In other words, is it worth it to have it repaired or is the probably a
fault in the tube itself and not the associated electronics? Thanks, Dave

How big is it? Would you rather have a bigger/slimmer one anyway?
How long do you need it to last?

I got a used 17" monitor for $40 ~8 months ago.
They're just about giving away used non-flat CRT units now.

Jeff, it's a 17 monitor. If I can buy a used 17 monitor for $50 or so, it
will be worth my while as it will cost about $40 to have to just looked
at. Thanks for responding. Dave Horne
