My CRT monitor images intermittently turns purple. Could anybody suggest
what the problem is? Is it a capacitor problem or a tube problem?

Thanks for helping!

Could be as simple as a cable problem. I've got one which I periodically
have to wiggle the connector where it plugs into the video card. It
exhibits the same sort of behavior. I had another which required
resoldering the socket on the neck-board of the the crt...had to do it
twice, don't know why, but eventually got it fixed.

Try a little 'percussive maintenance,' ie: whack it a couple of times. If
that affects the problem, it's probably a bad solder joint. Wiggle the
cable where it goes into the monitor and where it connects to the computer.
Sometimes the pins get dirty and just need a bit of cleaning. Make sure the
screws holding securing the connector are tight...remove it and hook it up
again.

If all that fails, you *may* have one of the problems you suspect.

As others have suggested, probably a bad connection. Almost certainly
not a tube problem.

You're losing green, bad connection somewhere.
....and not likely the actual cable where it connects to the PC, unless
it's oxidation. Because of the VGA pinout, if one side of the cable
lets go/creeps out, you lose red, resulting in a cyan tinge, and if
the other end creeps out, you'll lose sync. It could be a broken wire
in the cable. Is it fixed to the monitor, or connect/disconnect at
both ends? If the latter, try another cable, if you can borrow one,
have another, or can acquire one cheaply enough.

Repost with Manufacturer and Model Number, the responses may become much
more specific to your device. Generic requests generate varied responses. I
do agree it is probable a defect witin the monitor itself.

I actually tried all of them. I changed display card too. The color change
happens when I moved nothing. (I stand 5 feet away from it).

The cable is directly embedded into the monitor, and the other side is
soldered directly in the motherboard. It might be messy to desolder
everything and then resolder it..
