Monaural signal into Stereo Unit.

What is the correct way to feed a monaural output from one piece of
audio equipment into another unit that is designed with two inputs for
stereo output? I am attempting to convert my home videos to DVD using a
stereo analogue to digital converter and a monaural VCR.

** All you need is a Y lead.

Two RCA plugs on one end and one on the other.

Thanks, I thought I might get some distortion if I did that, sounds too
easy!

** Audio inputs can always be linked in parallel - but not (in general)
outputs.

I have been thinking about what you said... When is an input not an
output? If I take an output from a Stereo turntable and feed it to a
Mono amplifier and I use a 'Y' lead to connect, am I combining an output?
If I do the reverse i.e. Mono turntable to Stereo amplifier, is that an
input? Very confusing for someone not used to mental gymnastics!

You can take a single Mono output and feed it to both Stereo (L & R
channel) inputs...
but you cannot normally take both Stereo (L & R channel) outputs and
combine them into a single input to a Mono system

Thanks, I will have to remember that! I can't work out the logic behind
it though. No formal training in electricity or electronics but lots of
interest.
