Mobile Phone Protocols/Syntax

Does anyone know where to find details of mobile phone communications
protocols or syntaxes.

I'm interested in everything including the syntax for voice, picture, SMS
and any other system capabilities.

For example I'm guessing that SMS might have a structure like
n Bytes SMS Message Identifier
n Bytes Sending Phone Number
n Bytes Receiving Phone Number
n Bytes Error Detection - Checksum character.

Also I'm curious if anyone has experience in communicating (with a PC or
similiar) with the mobile phone system?
How difficult was it? What are the issues?

Thank You

Try Vodaphone technical dept. - they should be able to assist.
