When I switch on the power at the wall for the VCR, the VCR starts
flashing the date and time LEDS. I unable to insert a cassette or
enter the power on state. Also, when I press the 'auto setup' button,
it starts to setup, but instantly switches the LEDs off and continues
to flash the date and time LEDs.

At no time is there any mechanical noises.

Anyone had this problem before?

Something is probably mechanically out of alignment, it's not able to home
everything so it shuts down. Could be a problem with the mode switch.
