Mighty Mouse Laser LED specs?

I have a wireless Apple Mighty Mouse that has died, and I believe it is
only the LED that has stopped working, but I don't know what specs to
look for in a replacement, and if anyone can tell me what they would be,
or where I can find the exact part, I would appreciate it.

There's probably nothing special about the red LED in question. Chances
are any old red LED will work in place. If you're replacing it you may as
well get a high brightness one in case it requires the extra illumination
to pick out detail well.

If it is the LED that's blown there could be something wrong with another
component causing the failure in the first place. If that is the case you
could be going through a great many LEDs!

and just thought I'd mention that everything else seems to be working
fine, and I plan on testing as much as I can when the new LED is
connected, probably using it for spare parts, if another one dies, (so
no, not a lot of LEDs).

So they are! I beg your pardon. In that case you may have trouble finding
an exact replacement. According to Wikipedia, laser mice usually use an
invisible infra-red laser anyway, so it may not be broken after all.

Interesting. I'll have to look at it more closely, then. It's too long
for me to be sure of my recollection, but I'm pretty sure they had
something producing a red light, whether or not it was the laser. All I
know is that the last I looked at it, it wasn't making the light I was
used to, or responding to motion, but it still showed the power light,
and showed up as a bluetooth device. I'm kind of guessing I'll just
have to get a new one. I liked it a lot, but I dropped it a few times,
and need to find new habits that avoid droppage.

Anyway, if anyone can still give me insight into finding a laser led for
the mighty mouse, or just in general, I'd appreciate it, since I've done
some searches, and can't seem to decipher one laser led from another,
particularly why one with similar specs, as far as I understand them
will cost immense amounts more than another one. (or which is good for
any particular purpose)
