Hi Tim, this is not exactly what you asked for but may be of use. It's a
stepper motor with integrated microstepping drive. I don't know a lot about
the area, they may be common, but I thought it was pretty cool. They may
have a Oz / Asian rep.

Do some searching for "Baldor". They have reps in Oz and do steppers &
drivers used in CNC construction / retrofits etc.

These guys below were in my list of useful companies and may be able to
help. Oatley may also have some odd bits and pieces depending on what your
