I am somewhat disappointed at the lack of newsgroups dedicated to
microcontrollers. Specifically the more popular ones such as Arduino,
Raspberry Pi, Propeller, Basic Stamp, etc.
The existing groups (alt.microcontrollers and
alt.microcontrollers.8bit) have shown little to no activity in recent
years. With the increased popularity of these amazing devices it would
seem wise to start a new group specific to our interests.
Creating a new group seems a little daunting to me. Is there anyone
out there with usenet experience that would take on the project of
starting a new group?
Everyone, please let me know your thoughts.

The Raspberry Pi has a newsgroup, it was created soon after it came out,
and one of the relative few created in recent years. ANd it's not an alt
newsgroup, though I can't remember the title.

One thing to watch, it may not have been added to whatever newsserver you
use. That sort of thing may not be as automatic as in the past.

The sad reality is that virtually nobody new is coming to newsgroups, and
the online population dwarfs the population that uses Usenet, so most
everything new goes to webforums and twitter and likely facebook. Most
old newsgroups have declined a lot in traffic, and even if one put a lot
of effort into resurrecting an old newsgroup, chances are it still
wouldn't attract much attention. IN retrospect, the newcomer was a key
ingredient to any newsgroup, a constant flow of newcomers (who often
backed away soon after their first post) being a catalyst for the
oldtimes. Once that flow stopped, the oldtimers started disappearing too.

The Arduino site has been one of the best sites for info and
tutorials. I just wanted to see if there was enough interest out there
for a Usenet group. I've been using Usenet for a long time and am just
in the habit of going there when I have questions.

Have a look at c.a.embedded. It is not specifically devoted to the
popular ones you mentioned, but threads tend to be quite interesting.
For Raspberry, c.s.raspberry-pi is a place to look.
