Meter case

Is it still possible to buy meter cases for lab bench use, that is boxes
that present a 45% (or thereabouts) face to the user, with a narrow flat top
for the terminals and a sloping front panel to accept a hole for the meter
body? Plastic or aluminium would do.

Neither Jaycar (fast disappearing into a maze of tatty trivia like farting
ashtrays and choke your boss) or Altronics seem to do them.

Further to that, just tried Googling Radiospares. Got, as one so often does
(good old one), a %^%$# secondary search engine and heaps of adverts for
ebay, as nearly always happens. Have Radiospares got a prsence in Australia
and what is the URL please?

Try for RS instead.

Just found it under RS components. Useless catalogue. High prices. American
measurements. Grumble... Grumble... Any other ideas please?

Try RS components and search under "Consoles".

Farnell have a few, this is probably the cheapest:

Hammond make them:

Mouser stock them, but not cheap:

Thanks all for the various suggestions. Unfortunately, either the slope (too
shallow usually) or the price (too high, naturally(!)) rules them all out.
Looks like no-one makes those small sloped cases (45% from vertical) that
used to hold ammeters and voltmeters in school labs. Maybe I'll make my own.
Only need two. Thanks again.

BTW, this newsgroup is about 100 times more sensible than when I last
unsubscribed. I thank you all once again.

The trick is to use your newsgroup filters to block out all the nutters,
and ignore any threads that look inflammatory.

Or silly. :)

Then no one would see your silly messages, Bob. ;-)

The first sign of insanity is denying that you're crazy.

Maybe there is one of these on ebay under "vintage" or "used"
equipment that possibly doesnt work
that you could gut and replace with the meter and circuitry that you
want ?
I remember the ones that I think you are looking for.

If its safe to do so for your application, you might be able to roll
your own from thin ply and/or aluminium / perspex.

Anything is better than searching through pages of endless farting
ashtrays,
i havent come across any of those on ebay yet :)

(I got that flyer in the post today from Jaycar that had a "farting
remote man control" in it, The first 4
pages were basically stuff like this of little use but
one good thing - the the flyer is currently doing an excellent job in
the bin wrapped around the former contents
of the cat litter box.)

Agreed about Jaycar, but re Ebay I got so fed up with numerous ebay
references every time I Googled *anything* (whether or not there was
anything on Ebay that fitted ther search -- therefore they must have some
kind of autoresponder to *anything* search criteria...) that I always give a
minus ebay to any search now.

I have been thinking of building with Perspex.

Jaycar is kinda like Usenet, there is plenty of good stuff there (more
than ever in fact), you just have to ignore the crap.

Agree - There is good stuff in the yearly catalog, but the flyer
didn't inspire me much :), or should
I say - there was nothing I really needed.
