MEGGER testers current limited?

Does anyone know if all MEGGER resistance/isolation/insulation testers
current limited? I assume not, but can anyone give examples?

All the ones I have seen are current limited. Testing insulation with
unlimited current available would almost surely damage the insulation since
any leakage would heat the path, thus increasing the leakage, thus
increasing the heat, thus increasing the leakage, etc., etc..

Any idea of what typical current limits might be? 2ma-25ma? more?

It has been quite a while since I have calibrated any of these but I am
pretty sure that microamperes to a few milliamperes is typical. You can
check it by connecting an ammeter across the test leads. You might find some
specs on the internet by looking for "Biddle" which was one of the original
manufacturers and owns the trademark "Megger".
