Maybe time to shut down this news group?????

It is now useless for the originally intended purpose!

So maybe shut it down for a while and reactivate when the spammers/
advertisers have died away?

The same ahs unfortunately happened to other worthwhile forums.

Some simple filtering removes most of the spam. I have only one or two a
day.

filters.

But I do see a lot of stuff in s.e.d. that should be in s.e.b. maybe.

I don't see much spam, using Supernews and Agent with a bunch of
filters.

But I do see a lot of stuff in s.e.d. that should be in s.e.b. maybe.

I would rather see anything actually "ELECTRONIC" related in SED no
matter how trivial some may find.

It seems to be turning into Alt global warming, or lets talk politics.

I'm guilty of biting at some of the bullshit to; but it is getting
out of control.

To the OP use a news reader if you have shaw they have free news group
accsess.

I recently switched to Eternal September free
newsserver and the spam seems to have totally
vanished. Now there is so little SEB traffic that
I wonder if some legit messages are getting
blocked!

I guess I could always compare to the Google
version if I *really* want to know... nah!

rants which have nothing to do with the mandate of the group.

So as a result many groups cease to be what they were intended to be.

There are, still, some groups where posters will courteously apologise
for posting as it is termed, 'OT', or Off Topic and will seek
direction to a forum that is more appropriate for their question.

Other just bull right in with with "Do we have deal for YOU? Just on
the market, recently drained land near New Orleans, soon to be
valuable (when dikes repaired!)".etc. etc.

So why do we tolerate the misuse or just seek to avoid it? Is that
just 'Do nothingness' or 'Just do nothing and hope it goes away'.

obvious fact. I even set up a Ning group for one defunct newsgroup I've
posted to since 1996, just so the "Oldtimers" of that group (me
included)could keep in touch. It will be a sad day for me when it all
goes, but there is no fighting it.
